ABOUT ME

I consider my illustrations and paintings to be spontaneous synesthetic play: always unplanned, always freehand, only using whatever materials are around.

I manifest emotions and sensory experiences on paper and canvas, often to music as my synesthesia intertwines sounds, colors, movements, and emotions - and relying on material constraints as a way to provide novel structural parameters.

There's a graying, fraying towel? I am suddenly enraptured by the texture of the fuzzy nubs and they must be used immediately, somehow.

The lights went out during a storm in a strange country? Let's try watercolors for the first time in 20 years using a child's travel paint kit, by the flickers of candlelight.

Stuck in days-long, stressful corporate meetings? I'm a vocal participant yet also -- quietly, calmly -- amassing piles of post-its with deeply drawn jagged strokes, spiraling vortexes, tiny teeth, dripping sharp edges, heavily bandaged creatures.

Creating is my meditation, an unmediated processing of what I'm feeling with all my senses full blown; of being truly, wholly present; a rare state with my ADHD brain in the world today.

I crave this feeling of pure, focused play.
